President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo as ECOWAS Chair on Thursday left Ghana for Congo Brazzaville to attend the swearing-in of Denis Sassou Nguesso, as President of that country.
President Akufo-Addo was accompanied by the Minister for Foreign Affairs, Shirley Ayorkor Botchway and officials of the Presidency and Foreign Ministry.
He will return to Ghana on Friday,16th April 2021 and in his absence, the Vice President, Alhaji Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, shall, in accordance with Article 60(8) of the Constitution, act in his stead.
President Sassou-Nguesso, 77, who was re-elected in March, this year, has been in office for 36years (1979-1993 & then 1997 to date) and will be sworn in on Friday, for a fourth term.
A Court in the Republic of Congo on April 6, affirmed his re-election as President.
He will serve as the country’s Leader until 2026.
