President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has called President-elect John Dramani Mahama to congratulate him on his decisive victory in the just-ended presidential election.
This call, according to a press release on Monday evening, was “further to this evening’s official declaration by the Chairperson of the Electoral Commission, Mrs Jean Mensa, of the results of the 2024 Presidential Election.”
President Akufo-Addo expressed his commitment to ensuring a seamless power transfer on 7 January 2025 and looks forward to working with the President-elect and his team to realise this goal.
“The President also congratulates the Electoral Commission and the Ghanaian people on a successful election that reflects the enduring strength of Ghana’s democracy,” the statement said.
President Akufo-Addo said he acknowledges the commitment and participation of all stakeholders, which have ensured that the democratic process in Ghana remains credible and peaceful.
“President Akufo-Addo calls on all Ghanaians to unite and work together to consolidate democracy and the rule of law in our country,” it added.
“In the spirit of collaboration, the President has invited the President-elect for a meeting on Wednesday, 11th December 2024, at Jubilee House to initiate the transition process,” according to the statement.
“He remains committed to the principles of good governance and a peaceful transition that will further strengthen Ghana’s reputation as a beacon of democracy in Africa.”
