The President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has directed Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives to remain at post till further notice.
A statement signed by the Chief of Staff, Madam Akosua Fremah Osei-Opare, said the President has also instructed the MMDCEs not to take any decision that has policy implications.
The directive was in accordance with article 243 (3) of the 1992 constitution of Ghana, the statement added
In a related development, the President has, pursuant to section 14 (1) of the Presidential Transitional Act 2012 (Act 845) directed, “all persons appointed by the President or a Minister of State as members of statutory boards and corporations to cease to hold that office on January 7, 2021.”
This was also contained in a statement signed by the Chief of Staff on January 12, 2021.
However, it said, “representatives of constituent bodies on the statutory boards and corporations are not affected by the directive.”
