The Electoral Commission (EC) will begin the compilation of the Transferred and Proxy Voters’ list today (Tuesday, October 20, 2020) and end on Thursday, October 22 at the District Offices of the EC across the country.

A press release issued by the EC said only students and security personnel were eligible to transfer their votes from the constituencies they registered to where they prefer to cast their votes on elections day.

It said security personnel who would perform special duties on the voting day and students who have moved from where they registered are required to provide identification to authenticate their status.

It added that such applicants are also expected to provide physical proof of their new residence.

On the Proxy voters, it said registered voters who might not be present at their assigned polling stations due to ill-health or other authentic reasons are expected to apply to the Returning Officers of their respective constituencies or the Commission for their names to be included in the Proxy Voters’ List.

“A person shall not appoint more than one person as a proxy to vote on his or her behalf at the elections,” it added.

In a related development, the EC has slated Tuesday, December 1, 2020, for the special voting for persons such as EC officials, media and security personnel whose duties may not allow them to vote on December 7, 2020.

The EC said this was in accordance with the Public Elections Regulations 2020 (C.I 127) Regulation 23.
