The Minister for Roads and Highways, Mr Francis Asenso-Boakye, has reaffirmed the government’s commitment to safeguarding national infrastructure by enforcing stricter rules on contractors during road construction.
He made the statement when a delegation from the Ghana Chamber of Telecommunications (GCT) paid a courtesy call on him in Accra.
He pledged the Ministry’s commitment to collaborating with the Ghana Chamber of Telecommunications (GCT) to protect telecommunications equipment from being damaged during excavation and road construction.
He stated that the ministry would ensure that contractors adhere to strict guidelines that prevent the disruption of essential services.
Mr Asenso-Boakye highlighted plans to secure legal backing from the Road Reservation Management Policy, which would regulate the coordination of infrastructure during construction and hold contractors accountable for any damages.
“We should find a way of managing these contractors to make sure that they go according to our legal framework. It is important, we have the regulations and enforce these guidelines to be adhered to by contractors,” he said.
The Minister’s move comes in response to the rising concerns of the GCT, which has noted increased instances of infrastructure damage during road construction.
The chamber called for stronger disciplinary measures against contractors who cause such disruptions.
