The Chief Justice, Mr Kwasi Anin-Yeboah, has commissioned courthouses and bungalows at Vakpo in North Dayi and Ve-Golokuati in Afadzato South Districts in the Volta Region.
He said the government seeks to bring justice delivery to the doorsteps of the people, hence the massive expansion of court infrastructure.
He disclosed that over 100 courthouses and bungalows are being constructed across the country with funding from the District Assembly Common Fund (DACF).
The Chief Justice entreated the District Assemblies to support the judiciary in their domains by ensuring proper maintenance of the facilities.
He reminded the people of the need to ensure that democracy thrives in the country and emphasized the centrality of the judiciary in democratic governance.
To the staff of the judiciary, he advised them to render support to the people who seek their services without taking advantage of them.
Justice Anin-Yeboah also admonished the chiefs to take advantage of Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) in dealing with civil cases.
He, however, cautioned them against going to the courts to withdraw criminal cases for resolution since that does not fall within their mandate.
On his part, the Volta Regional Minister, Dr Archibald Yao Letsa, said the President’s background has influenced his love for the judiciary, hence the massive infrastructural expansion in the sector.
He also advised the people to respect court rulings and only use the law anytime they have reasons to disagree with the judges.
The Paramount Chief of Vakpo Traditional Area, Togbe Gbogbolulu V, said they have been very supportive of the judiciary, recounting how they provided accommodation for the magistrate until the government built one for him.
He further stated that the Traditional Council was prepared to give the judiciary any support they are capable of rendering, pledging to make land available for other development projects.
At Ve-Golokuati, Togbe Akoto (VI) of Ve-Agbome, a representative of the Paramount Chief of Ve Traditional Area, expressed gratitude to the government and pledged to maintain the facility.
