CUTS International has hosted a Private-Public Dialogue on the implementation of the African Intercontinental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) as part of its 40 years’ celebration of dedicated service to global trade and economic policy.
The event, which was held in collaboration with Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) on Tuesday in Accra, brought together stakeholders to collaborate and drive inclusive growth.
The anniversary dialogue also highlighted the organization’s achievements in promoting evidence-based policy decisions that prioritise economic prosperity, social justice and environmental sustainability.
The highlight of the event was a distinguished panel discussion featuring prominent voices in the global trade landscape on a discussion which explored ways of positioning the Ghanaian service sector to take advantage of AfCFTA.
Speaking at the event, the West African Regional Director for CUTS International, Mr Appiah Kusi Adomako, stated that the organisation as a leader in advocating for consumer rights, competition and balanced regulation, has played an instrumental role in shaping global trade dynamics over the years.
He reiterated CUTS International’s commitment to catalysing informed discussions, conducting groundbreaking research and influencing policy decisions that promote equitable trade practices, as well as sustainable development.
“With our rich legacy and forward-looking vision, CUTS International stands poised to navigate the evolving landscape of global trade, driving prosperity for all,” he added.
Mr. Adomako noted that the group would continue to demonstrate its dedication to helping businesses and governments realise the transformative effects of this important trade agreement.
On his part, the Founder and Secretary-General of CUTS International, Dr. Pradeep S. Mehta, emphasised the importance of inclusive and sustainable economic growth, stating, “AfCFTA presents a unique opportunity for Africa to harness its vast potential and address economic inequalities.”
