The Eastern Regional Minister, Mr. Seth Kwame Acheampong has met with the Vice Chancellors, President and top management of tertiary institutions in the region on Tuesday to extend collaboration between them that would help develop human capacity and bridge the gap between academia and practitioners.
It was also to open up an in-depth knowledge of programmes offered in the various institutions and to establish the possibility of getting lecturers as Resource Persons for trainings programmes.
This would create opportunities for staff to access short courses, to offer practical opportunities for students to link theory and research to practice through internships, and special visiting arrangement on the side of the academic intuitions.
The Minister in his statement indicated that Regional Coordinating Council (RCC) brings to the table a unique but relevant work experience in diverse areas that include Public Administration, Planning (both Spatial and Development) and Public Financial Management (including Budgeting, Accounting, Auditing).
The rest were, Human Resource Management, Agriculture, Social Development, Procurement and Contract Management (including Works, Goods & Service and Technical Services) and leadership support.
He encouraged the institutions to bring their years of experience to bear to ensure total development of the region.
Consequently, it was agreed that a committee or secretariat be established with the composition of the representatives from the academia and RCC to facilitate the bi-annual meeting which was concurred by the two parties.
