The Minister for Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, Madam Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey, has been awarded the National Order of Merit, Cooperation and Development Medal in Guinea Bissau on Tuesday.
Receiving the award from the President of Guinea Bissau, Mr Umaro Sissoco Embaló, Madam Ayorkor Botchwey expressed gratitude to the government and the people of Guinea Bissau for the honour.
She noted that the award was an honour for herself, the President of Ghana and Ghanaians.
She stated, “I owe the honour to President Akufo-Addo, considering that he gave me the opportunity to serve in his government as a Foreign Minister and for the confidence he continually reposes in me.”
The Minister highlighted the strong bond of friendship and cooperation that exists between Ghana and Guinea Bissau.
“This award is evidence of the strength of the relationship we have,” she added.
She reaffirmed her commitment to strengthening Ghana-Guinea-Bissau cooperative ties.
The short ceremony took place during the state visit of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to the Republic of Guinea Bissau from 14th to 16th May 2023.
