The Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection, Madam Lariba Abudu has called for a collaborative effort to provide Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) with equal access to opportunities and resources in the nation.
This she said includes providing accessible infrastructure, promoting inclusive education, and creating employment opportunities that are tailored to their needs.
Madam Lariba said this during the national launch of the Persons with Disability (PWDs) Enterprise Support Programme under the Ghana Economic Transformation Project on Monday in Accra.
The programme aligns with government’s goal of providing training, capacity upgrades, mentoring, funding and access to markets for enterprises owned by persons with disability.
It would also enable PWD Enterprise to scale their business and transition into the next stage of growth thereby improving their ability to increase sales and create sustainable jobs.
The Minister noted that despite progress made in recent years, people with disabilities still face significant challenges in the society.
“They often struggle to access basic social amenities that most of us take for granted, and are mostly excluded from social, cultural and economic activities,” she stated.
She called on all to create a society that values and celebrates the contributions of all its members especially Persons with Disabilities.
