The government has commenced disbursement of social subsidies to eligible households across the country through the Livelihood Empowerment Against Poverty (LEAP) programme.
The exercise, the 88th Cycle of LEAP cash grant, will benefit over 1.5 million individuals.
To ensure effective monitoring of the payment cycle and evaluation of the programmes, the Ministry of Gender, Children & Social Protection (MoGCSP) has assembled dedicated monitoring teams to collect data on various indicators for evaluation.
This will also facilitate interaction between the Ministry and beneficiaries to enable the assessment of the impact of the programmes on the lives of beneficiaries.
The amount disbursed is determined by the number of eligible members in a household.
Households that qualify for LEAP should have orphans, vulnerable children, elderly people 65 and above without support, persons with severe disabilities preventing them from working, pregnant women and mothers with infants under one year.
LEAP is a social cash transfer programme that aims to support the most impoverished households in Ghana by focusing on poverty alleviation through human capital development.
