The Minister for the Interior, Mr Ambrose Dery, has urged police officers to be professional to earn the accolade, “Police is your friend.”
He said the current government has a record of recruiting security personnel and equipping them to ensure that Ghanaians go about their duties without let or hindrance.
The Minister said this when he commissioned a Police Station last Thursday at Ejura in the Ashanti Region.
He explained that the building was part of the government’s commitment at bringing security to closer to the people, adding the Divisional Police Station alone cannot reduce crime without the support of the people.
He thus called on the people to support the police and other security services to effectively combat crime.
Mr Dery urged police to carry out their duties professionally, to engage the public instead of intimidating them and to contribute to the meaning of the phrase, “Police is your friend.”
He commended Ejurahene, Barima Osei Hwedie II for his contribution, foresight and selflessness to the building of the Police Headquarters. He also commended Ejura’s overseas friends, business associates and private citizens for their donations.
The Ejurahene, Barima Osei Hwedie II, stated that inadequate police presence led to the disruptions at Ejura in 2021 and expressed delight that steps had been taken to bring the situation to normal.
