Fair Wages and Salaries Commission has endorsed the migration of the Information Services Department to a new Scheme of Service.

The Commission, which has the mandate to ensure fair, transparent and systematic implementation of government pay policy, has further directed the Ministry of Finance to request the Controller and Accountant-General’s Department to commence the implementation of the new scheme.

Apart from this, the Commission has expunged the Assistant Director position from the hierarchy of job titles in the professional class.

This means in the professional class, the grades start from Assistant Information Officer, Information Officer, Senior Information Officer, Principal Information Officer, Deputy Chief Information Officer and Chief Information Officer.

However, three new grades have been added to the sub-professional class namely; Principal Information Assistant, Deputy Chief Information Officer and Chief Information Assistant.

The sub-professional class thus starts from Junior Information Assistant, Information Assistant, Senior Information Assistant, Principal Information Assistant, Deputy Chief Information Assistant and Chief Information Assistant. All journalists have now been converted to the Senior Information Assistant grade.

On Cinema Operators, the new scheme service starts this category of staff from Assistant Mobile Cinema Operator, Mobile Cinema Operator, Senior Mobile Cinema Operator, Principal Mobile Cinema Operator, Deputy Chief Mobile Cinema Operator and Chief Mobile Cinema Operator.

Some grades have, however, changed, for example, the principal cinema commentator grade is now Senior Information Assistant, Senior Cinema Commentator grade now becomes Information Assistant and Cinema Commentator becomes Junior Information Assistant.

The new scheme has also come with salary adjustments. Salaries of both professionals and sub-professionals — Principal Information Officers, Senior Information Officers and Information Officers; Senior Information Assistant, Information Assistant and Information Centre Attendance — have been increased.
