The government has not stopped the construction of the Kumawu constituency roads after the bye-election held on 23rd May 2023.
Currently, works on the road from Besoro township to Bodomase, as well as other towns which are beneficiaries of the 10Km town road construction are still continuing.
Despite reports from some media houses claiming construction has stopped after the elections, ghanatoday.gov.gh can confirm that the government’s commitment to the road project in the constituency is alive.
Our checks from the Kumawu (26th May 2023) have revealed that the contractor is laying asphalt on some of the roads while others ae being paved.
The contractor is currently working between Akotosu and Wonoo. It should be noted that the 18-month project spans 32 kilometers from Juaben to Effiduase-Oyoko-Wonoo-Kumawu-Bodomase-Woraso. Again, the asphaltic overlay in Kumawu township is substantially complete.
It can be recalled that, on Tuesday, 23rd May 2023 the Minister for Roads and Highways, Kwasi Amoako Atta, who embarked on inspection of the ongoing road rehabilitation project in Kumawu and its environs, assured residents that the road projects were no fluke and would not halt after the bye-elections.
He noted that the road projects in the constituency had been procured together with those of the Kwabre East saying, it was a coincidence that the works were taking place following the death of the former Member of Parliament (MP) of the area, Philip Atta Basoah.
“The procurement process for the road project had started earlier and the sod-cutting was to take place during the week when Mr Basoah passed on,” he stated.
