The National Alternative Employment and Livelihood Programme (NAELP) will organise a Mining Corporate Social Responsibility Exposition in June 2023 to allow mining companies to showcase their CSR and decades of investment in mining communities and the nation.

The two-day event will bring stakeholders and industry players together to demonstrate their development initiatives and plans for their catchment areas.

The Coordinator of NAELP, Dr Louise Carol Serwaa Donkor, announced this on Monday during a courtesy call on Kibi Goldfields Ltd to get the company’s support to form local and sustainable enterprises within its operational areas.

She was hopeful that the collaboration and the establishment of local enterprises would help ameliorate the lack of goodwill.

“Provide Ghanaians proof of your importance, or they may never notice the genuine difference between you and an illegal miner,” she said.

Dr Donkor formally invited Kibi Goldfields Ltd to join the Expo and publicise its positive activities.

She called for the establishment of a community strategy to recover and rehabilitate damaged lands in mining districts outside of mining concessions.

Mr Kofi Dafo Dartey, Managing Director of Kibi Goldfields Limited, gladly welcomed NAELP’s thoughts and suggestions and informed the coordinator of his company’s willingness to collaborate with any initiative that would share the company’s success story.

Madam Mariama Amidu, the company’s Health and Safety Manager, gave update on the company’s Corporate Social Responsibility programmes since 2018.

She said the company had established a Livelihood Empowerment Fund, which has a liaison committee that evaluates and determines which initiatives should be financed by the fund.
