The Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Mr Samuel Abu Jinapor, has highlighted the legal regime in Ghana’s natural resources sector that gives the government absolute control over the harnessing and management of the resources as the key factor behind effective and sustainable resource management.
According to him, the legislative structure vested in the President provided a strong government monitoring, which eliminates any potential problems that could hinder the country from harnessing such riches.
He made the remarks when a delegation from the Namibian Council Standing Committee on Agriculture, Environment and Natural Resources paid a courtesy call on him on Tuesday in Accra.
The delegation’s visit was in accordance with Rule 159 of the National Council Standing Rules and Orders, which mandates the committee to address matters pertaining to various sectors such as water, agriculture, land, environment, forest, mines and energy.
The leader of the Namibian delegation, Mr Elder Felipe, said the visit was driven by a responsibility to oversee and address issues relating to the management and preservation of natural resources in their country.
It was to strategize for the oil and gas industry in particularly, agriculture and natural resources in general.
