The Minister of State for the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development (MLGRD), Mr Osei Bonsu Amoah has called for an increased awareness creation on tree planting, the preservation of the forest and environment amidst climate change menace.
He said this when he led the Ministry to plant trees to commemorate the Green Ghana Day on Friday in Accra.
He acknowledged that, about 70% of trees planted by the Ministry between the years of 2021 and 2022 are still surviving, adding that “this is a laudable achievement which needs to be continued.”
He stated that as part of its mandate of ensuring that every district was developed, the Ministry would continue to support and ensure that all Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Assemblies (MMDAs) take active part in the tree planting exercise.
On his part, the Municipal Chief Executive of Korle Klottey Municipal Assembly, Mr Nii Adjei Tawiah revealed that the Ghana Tourism Authority and the national security was in the process of investing over 5 million Ghana cedis to develop the nationalism park.
“The Korle Klottey Municipal Assembly in collaboration with Ghana Tourism Authority, National Security and a private investor would help put those funds into these projects,” he emphasized.
According to him, the objective of the collaboration was to renovate the place to a befitting standard.
