The Minister for Local Government, Decentralisation, and Rural Development (MLGDRD), Martin Adjei Mensah Korsah, has inspected development projects in four municipalities in the Ashanti Region.
The projects inspected are under the Ghana Secondary Cities Support Programme (GSCSP).
At the Kwabre East Municipality, the Minister inspected roads under construction, market stalls and toilet facilities, noting the importance of improved transportation infrastructure for the municipality.
Mr Korsah added the market stalls would boost local commerce by providing secure and modern trading spaces for local businesses. He expressed satisfaction with the progress of work and urged the contractor to ensure the project was completed on time.
Mr Korsah also inspected a modern market and road projects in the Asokwa Municipality.
The Minister was happy with the work progress and encouraged the Assembly and contractors to meet project timelines.
He highlighted the necessity of ensuring quality in all aspects of the projects to benefit the local population.
At Old Tafo, the Minister inspected two storm drain project sites and said the projects were critical in preventing flooding and improving public health.
At Suame the minister inspected the construction of 150 lockable stores and 65 stalls. The project was completed and traders were ready to use the new facilities.
Work on 60 lockable stores and external works was reviewed. The Minister noted the positive impact these developments would have on local trade.
Addressing the press later, Mr Korsah reiterated the overall goal of the GSCSP: to build resilient and sustainable cities that meet the needs of citizens.
He highlighted the government’s effort to secure a credit facility from the World Bank to support these laudable initiatives to improve the quality of life for Ghanaians.
