President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has extended the date set for KPMG to complete its auditing of the transaction between the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) and Strategic Mobilisation Ghana Ltd (SML) from 16th January 2024 to 23rd February 2024.
This follows a request made by KPMG to the President, asking for an extension of the two weeks originally given to the company to undertake the assignment.
In a press release issued by the Presidency on Wednesday, KPMG is expected to submit its final report no later than 23rd February 2024.
The GRA on Monday pleaded with President Akufo-Addo to allow the revenue assurance system of Strategic Mobilisation Limited (SML) installed at the various petroleum depots to continue running.
The request followed a presidential directive for the contract to be suspended.
The GRA said dismantling the SML system would lead to severe revenue losses.
However, according to the press release, “President Akufo-Addo has taken note of the request made by GRA asking for permission to allow the monitoring system installed and used by SML to continue, notwithstanding the suspension of its GRA-related operations.”
The President, however, “has denied GRA’s request and has directed that the status quo, with respect to the suspension of the performance of the contract, should remain in effect until the completion of the audit and submission of the audit report by KPMG.”
