The Passport Office has received modern IT equipment worth US$1.3 million from the Public Sector Reform Secretariat (PSRS) to facilitate its digitalization drive.
The IT equipment, included 50 Dell Optiplex 7400 All-in-One Desktop Computers, 10 Dell EMC PowerEdge R940 Server, 10 APC Smart-UPS SRT 5000VA Uninterruptible Power Supply, 60 Canon EOS 4000D Digital Cameras and other computer accessories.
The Senior Presidential Advisor, Mr. Yaw Osafo-Maafo, during the presentation of the items noted that the donation formed part of ongoing project implementation under the Office of the Senior Presidential Advisor and the PSRS in collaboration with the World Bank.
“The project covers 13 selected public sector institutions, including the Passport Office as one of the service delivery agencies,” he noted.
He asserted that the intervention would enhance efficiency in the issuance of passports.
He stated, “It is worthy to note that since the implementation of the PSRRP, the Passport Office has benefited immensely from the funding of activities including an independent review of its administrative structures, procedures and policies; a peer-to-peer learning and institutional collaboration with external sister organizations.”
Mr. Osafo-Maafo further hinted that the Passport Office would be supported with additional I.T. equipment and modern Passport Printers before the end of the year to help increase its efficiency in passport issuance and ultimately, help citizens reduce the time spent accessing passports.
“We believe, these activities and support to the Passport Office would provide the needed reforms and transformation of the services delivered to the citizens and the private sector,” he added.
On his part, the Director of Passports, Mr. Habib Idris, said “We will make very good use of the equipment for the greater benefit of delivering efficient services to the public.”
