The State Housing Company (SHC) has handed over seven bungalows to the Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) in Sefwi Wiawso in the Western North Region.
This forms part of the government’s commitment to providing quality affordable houses for security personnel.
The Minister for Interior, Mr Ambrose Dery, at the handing-over ceremony said the completion of the project was a testimony of the government’s commitment to retooling the security agencies.
“Today’s commissioning is the 11th of such partnership between the State Housing Company (SHC) and the Ghana Immigration Service and it is a testament to the government’s commitment to retooling and revamping the security services,” he stated.
He said the initiative came up as a step to develop the newly created regions.
“It is instructive to inform you that the government is poised to improve the infrastructural needs of all the six newly created regions including the Western North,” he emphasized.
He said the government was cognizant of the current housing situation of officers, which made mobilization extremely difficult because they were dispersed, affecting operational efficiency in times of emergencies.
The Minister assured officers of all security agencies that their accommodation challenges would be resolved.
“The government is also committed to constructing well-planned housing units for personnel of the security services in the country including the Ghana Immigration Service,” he stated.
He echoed the government’s concerted efforts in resourcing the security agencies to enable them to discharge their mandate effectively.
“Let me reiterate the fact that without security there will be no development. This is the basis of the government’s commitment to continue to provide for the welfare of all the security agencies in the fight against terrorism and all forms of criminality,” he stated.
On her part, the Deputy Managing Director of the State Housing Company (SHC), Sherifa Sekyere-Tijani, who handed over the keys to GIS, said it was the third time in three years that SHC had handed over bungalows to GIS.
The seven detached bungalows include two and three bedrooms.
