The Minister for Transport, Mr Kwaku Ofori Asiamah has inaugurated a nine-member committee to oversee the preparations for the commissioning of the Kumasi International Airport on 10th May 2024.
Chaired by the Deputy Minister for Transport, Mr Hassan S. Tampuli, the committee is tasked with ensuring a seamless and orderly commissioning ceremony, free from any security or logistical hitches.
In his remarks at the inaugural ceremony, the Minister noted that the committee has been instructed to pay attention to every detail and finalize all necessary arrangements for the commissioning.
“This is a momentous occasion, and we want it to be executed flawlessly, befitting the inauguration of an international airport,” he added.
Mr Hassan Tampuli, the committee’s chairperson, expressed gratitude for the opportunity and promised to leverage the experience gained from the commissioning of Tamale International Airport.
“We will take inspiration from the Tamale Airport’s commissioning and ensure that any minor issues encountered there are not repeated in Kumasi,” he assured.
He hinted that the committee plans to involve all major stakeholders in the planning process, to create a comprehensive and well-coordinated event.
“Particular attention will be given to security measures and logistical arrangements to ensure a smooth and memorable experience for attendees,” he said.
Phase II of the Kumasi International Airport has been completed and will be commissioned for international operations to start.
