The Minister for Works and Housing, Mr Francis Asenso-Boakye has inspected some drainage facilities in Kumasi.
The inspection was to afford the Minister first-hand information on the drainage situation ahead of the rainy season.
On-site, Mr Asenso-Boakye indicated that some of the drainage facilities were unable to contain the current volumes of water due to population growth, urbanisation and climate change.
He said in the interim, the drainage facilities that require desilting would be done while the Ministry takes steps to expand their capacity to contain the rains.
He urged the public to desist from disposing of waste into the drains to collectively mitigate the flooding situation in the country.
Some drainage inspected include Danyame River, Adiemera drains, Samad Hotel drains, Atafoa drains, Kumasi Zoo drains, Sisan drains and Wiwi drains.
