The Ministry of Youth and Sports and the National Youth Authority have established a youth sector working group to improve the coordination and effectiveness of youth-targeted programmes in the country.
Speaking at the meeting on Wednesday in Accra, the Minister for Youth and Sport, Mr Mustapha Ussif said the formation of the group was to harness the energy, ideas, expertise and potential of young individuals and stakeholders for the country’s development.
He said the group would bring relevant stakeholders to find solutions to the challenges affecting the youth and their growth.
He added that the Ministry was making efforts to address challenges facing the youth, however, the major issue hampering the progress was the possible duplication of roles within the various youth-led organisations which can be attributed to the lack of proper coordination.
The Minister urged the working group members to contribute their expertise and ideas to realise the group’s objectives.
The event was attended by the Country Director of the UNFPA, Dr Wilfred Ochan, and the Ambassador of Rwanda to Ghana, HE. Rosemary Mbabazy representatives of UNESCO, the European Union, Youth Employment Agency, Master Card Foundation, and National Service Secretariat.
