The Ministry of Youth and Sports (MoYS) and the Local Organizing Committee (LOC) have led the Parliamentary Select Committee (PSC) on Youth, Sports and Culture to inspect ongoing works at the various infrastructure sites to host the 13th African Games “Accra 2023.”

The Chief Director of the Sports Ministry, Alhaji Hafiz Adams, who led the delegation on behalf of the Minister, Mustapha Ussif, noted that even though the Games had been rescheduled to 2024, monitoring the development of the construction work was still necessary to make sure the deadlines were properly met.

He stated that the Ministry was considering the committee’s direction, support and guidance to ensure that the preparations for the Games were adequate and that Ghana would host one of the best Games ever.

On his part, the Chairman of the Local Organizing Committee for the 13th African Games, Dr Kwaku Ofosu- Asare, noted the impasse between the Association of National Olympic Committees (ANOCA) and the African Union Sports Council (AUSC) had been resolved amicably through the intervention of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo at the sidelines of the African Union meeting in Addis Ababa recently.

He indicated that the LOC was able to get all the stakeholders to come to Ghana to inspect the facilities and to determine the appropriate date for the commencement of the Games, which is now scheduled to begin on 8th March 2024 and ends on 23rd March 2024.

He said everything was on track to deliver the best Games but the most critical issue now is to meet the new timelines.

The delegation toured the facilities at Borteyman and the University of Ghana stadium and expressed its satisfaction with the progress of works so far.
