The Ministry of Youth and Sports (MoYS) has held a meeting with stakeholders to solicit inputs to enrich the draft National Sports Policy.
Delivering an address at the stakeholder meeting in Accra on Wednesday, the Deputy Minister of Youth and Sports, Mr Evans Opoku, said Ghana has several sporting talents, adding that to detail the many achievements of current and past sportsmen and women would be a tall order.
He, therefore, noted that it was imperative for duty bearers to properly situate sports and sports business in the development framework of the nation.
In that regard, he stressed that the policy’s development and implementation would secure the infrastructural, human resource development, financial, technological and knowledge systems required to advance the development of sports in the country.
The Chief Director of the Ministry, Alhaji Hafiz Adam, affirmed the confidence he has in stakeholders to constructively critique the document and make necessary recommendations.
He added that it was a step in the right direction for the policy to be brought into fruition as Ghana has long been in dire need of policy direction for the development of sports.
Stakeholders present at the meeting include the Board of the National Sports Authority, the Ministerial Advisory Board, the Local Organizing Committee for the 13th African Games and members of some federations.
