The Ghanaian Contingent to the Commonwealth Games held in Birmingham presented five medals won to the Minister of Youth and sports, Mr Mustapha Ussif in Accra last Tuesday.
The Minister congratulated the athletes and the technical officials on the successes achieved at the commonwealth games.
The Minister said the five medals showed that the team had improved upon its performance and hoped that Ghana would win gold medals in the next continental tournament.
“If you remember in 2018 Ghana won only a medal but this year, we won five. You can see that in those areas where we couldn’t win medals the performance has been excellent. The team has done so well and deserves the medals,” he noted.
Mr Usiff called on corporate organizations to come on board to unearth talents for the various associations as the country seeks to host a successful African Games in 2023.
On his part, Ghana’s Chef de Mission for the 2022 Commonwealth Games, Mr Frederick Acheampong, expressed appreciation to the Sports Minister and the government for their support and commitment to team Ghana.
Team Ghana won three medals in boxing, two silver medals and one bronze, two medals in athletics, one bronze in the men’s 200 meters and one bronze in long jump.
