The Minister for Communications and Digitalisation (MoCD), Mrs Ursula Owusu-Ekuful has echoed Ghana’s commitment to making the Africa Continental Free Trade Agreement (AfCFTA) experience distinct to fulfil Africa’s long-standing goal of economic and political unification.
The Minister said this at the 74th Annual New Year School and Conference last Friday in Accra.
She indicated that the common digital platforms, digital business models and analytics infrastructure that has been put in place by the government has made it easier to optimise maritime, aviation, ground intermodal transport and logistics resources than it was in the past.
According to the Minister, one of the most important strategies the African Continent could employ to remove non-tariff obstacles for the AfCFTA operationalization, was the digitalization, interconnection and inter-operability of Africa’s border posts, ports and customs.
“Through the government’s trancop policy, we wholeheartedly embraced the creation and rollout of the AfCFTA Hub platform to generate digital resources for all the key actors and stakeholders in Ghana involved in one way or another in making the AfCFTA a success,” she announced.
Mrs Owusu-Ekuful added that there must be a unified regional platform that enables connectivity and interoperability, to promote transparency and easy identification of people to facilitate free movement as a catalyst to the success of AfCFTA.
As part of the event, local manufacturers/producers were given the platform to advertise their products and the Minister took the opportunity to visit their stands and interacted with them.
