The Ghana Domain Name Registry (GDNR) has been instrumental in driving the Internet Governance Forum in Ghana over the years.
This local domain name space is one of the backbones of our digital economy, and the Registry continues its efforts to make the.GH domain, a flagship extension for all Ghanaians and Ghana-based companies.
The Deputy Minister for Communication and Digitalisation, Mr Charles Acheampong said this at the 2024 Ghana Internet Governance Forum (Ghana IGF) in Accra.
He commended the GDNR for proactively raising awareness, building capacity within the local internet community and hosting the DNS forum in Ghana.
Mr Acheampong announced that insights from the Ghana IGF 2024 would contribute to the conversation at the upcoming Global IGF in Saudi Arabia.
The Deputy Minister outlined government initiatives to expand digital access, including the Ghana Rural Telephony and Digital Inclusion Project, which has constructed over 1,010 cell sites across the country.
That, according to him, has successfully ensured that all underserved and unserved communities have mobile and broadband coverage.
He added that the Ministry has also established Community Information Centres and digital inclusion programmes to equip citizens with the skills necessary to thrive in the digital economy
“These initiatives have brought essential communication services to millions of Ghanaians who were previously excluded from the digital revolution,” he emphasized.
The forum, themed “Empowering Sustainable Development of Our Digital Future,” focused on Ghana’s digital transformation and efforts to create a secure, inclusive, and sustainable digital economy.
