Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia has launched CitizenApp, a comprehensive digital platform designed to centralize and improve interactions between the government and citizens.
The initiative forms part of the government’s commitment to achieving a fully digitalised economy and improving service efficiency across the public sector.
At the launch event on Monday in Accra, Dr Bawumia explained that CitizenApp offers a one-stop platform for accessing a wide range of government services, reporting issues and receiving real-time updates on public matters.
He stated, “With this single, unified, user-friendly platform, we are consolidating public services to enhance efficiency and convenience.
“From paying utility bills and market tolls to obtaining digital addresses and even changing names after marriage, the app promises to simplify interactions with various government agencies. Additionally, the app will support functions like tracking and paying for intercity transport and other services that typically require multiple trips to government offices.”
According to the Vice President, a key feature of the app is its data interoperability system, which connects government agencies and allows for seamless data sharing.
“We are creating a digital framework that links all government agencies, reducing bureaucracy, streamlining data sharing, and eliminating the need for repeated paperwork,” he added.
He noted that this would lead to faster service delivery, fewer delays and improved convenience for citizens.
Moreover, he said, CitizenApp incorporates advanced technology like artificial intelligence (AI), blockchain and cybersecurity systems to ensure the safety and protection of government and citizen data.
He noted that citizens would only need one login for all services with a centralised Single Sign-On Authentication feature, further enhancing ease of access.
He said, “From the moment a child is born, parents can now apply for a birth certificate with ease, without the need for multiple trips to government offices. The digital system will handle these processes efficiently, allowing parents more time to focus on their families instead of bureaucratic formalities.”
Dr Bawumia urged Ghanaians to embrace CitizenApp and provide feedback to improve the platform.
On her part, the Deputy Commissioner General of the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA), Ms Julie Essiam, indicated the significance of the new system in creating a more efficient, technology-driven government that works seamlessly for the people.
“With CADIS, your Ghana Card becomes a unique ID and all relevant data needed to clear your goods will be automatically shared between agencies. No more running around submitting documents, no more delays,” she added.
On the benefits of CADIS, Ms Essiam explained that the system would link data between the GRA, the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA) and other relevant bodies.
According to her, once a citizen imports a car, the registration and insurance processes would be swift and interconnected.
