President Akufo-Addo attends 15th BRICS Summit in South Africa

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo on Tuesday left Ghana to attend the 15th BRICS summit, which is being held in Johannesburg, South Africa from 22nd August to 24th August.

The BRICS summit is being attended by leaders of Brazil, India, China and South Africa except for the Russian President, Vladimir Putin, who will be represented by his Foreign Minister, Sergey Lavrov.

BRICS is a group of world economies of Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa which was formed in 2010.

The summit is primarily a meeting of the leaders of these five countries. However, there would be an extensive business programme arranged around the Summit culminating in the BRICS Business Forum.

President Akufo-Addo is expected to deliver a statement at the summit.

He was accompanied by the Minister for Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, Shirley Ayorkor Botchway and officials of the presidency and Foreign Ministry.

The President will return to Ghana on Friday, 25th August 2023.
