The United States of America Ambassador to Ghana, Virginia Palmer, has commended Ghana for the role the country was playing in ensuring peace and security in the country and the sub-regions.
She said this when she paid a courtesy call on the Minister for the Interior, Mr Ambrose Dery in Accra to discuss bilateral interests between the two countries.
The Minister assured the Ambassador of the ministry’s constant maintenance of peace and security in the country and said his doors are always open for further discussion that fosters business, trading and security.
The Minister noted that the bilateral relationship between Ghana and the United States of America dated back to Ghana’s independence, adding that there was a need to collaborate further for the benefit of the two countries.
He noted that Ghana was the first country in the world to accept Peace Corps Volunteers and that that showed the level of relationship between the two countries.
Mr Dery said the two countries would continue to collaborate to increase the effectiveness in response to international threats such as trafficking and terrorism.
